Although we hope we never have to implement them,
CFC maintains and updates comprehensive disaster recovery, business
resumption, and crisis communications plans. These tested plans
include our staff replicating CFC's essential operations at a remote
location and having them up and running within 36 hours. Essential operations include CFC's ability to process transactions,
fund loan advances, and maintain access to the capital markets through
our financial partners. In addition, we maintain an alternate work
site complete with computers and workstations, as well as the ability
to electronically back-up our entire computer network, including
the real time replication of financial transactions, all member
information, loan histories, and invoices. CFC's preparedness also includes a variety of methods for communicating
with members and staff in the event of a business interruption.
A Crisis Communications Team is in place to ensure that the most
accurate and timely information possible is conveyed to our members
and business partners.
For CFC, creating this plan was a comprehensive endeavor that involved a serious commitment of staff and financial resources. The endeavor continues, as the plan is updated and tested, to keep pace with any changes in CFC's business environment. CFC urges its members to regularly review and test their own
business continuity plans—and enhance them as needed. There are
many resources
available to assist a company in putting together a plan for disaster
recovery, or business continuity. Some online resources include
free subscriptions to the Disaster Recovery Journal at www.drj.com
and guidance at www.disaster-resource.com.
